MVB to A[ndrew] J[ackson] Donelson, 5 October 1844

my dear Sir

The Dr. & myself have been not a little embarrassed by not seeing or hearing from you. I had shewn him your letter in respect to the payment of $6000 in August & have for the second time made arrangements based upon assurances that I would receive a payment myself, in which I can not be disappointed without serious inconvenience. Let me my dear Sir beg your early & effectual attention to this matter. The affair wears so different an aspect from that which I authorized the Dr. to expect as to <illegible> <illegible> make it unpleasant to both of us. Have the goodness to write me upon the receipt of this I may make suitable explanation to him in the matter.

With the kindest regards to Mrs Donelson, Mary & every member of your family, as always

your sincere friend

M. Van Buren
