Mr William Pierce, marshal of the city of Troy in this state, contemplates offering for a contract with the naval Board (as he informs me) to supply provisions for the navy & has desired me to say to you what I think of his character.

I have known Mr Pierce several years and have always regarded him as a man of Integrity perseverance and Industry and am well satisfyed that he would perform his contract with fidelity.
