The following resolutions were offered by Mr. Van Buren, and unanimously adopted by the meeting:

Resolved, That the thanks of this meeting be presented to their worthy fellow-citizen, GEORGE MERCHANT, Esq. for his able, zealous, and independent dishcarge of the duties of chairman of the republican general committee, previous to and during the late election.

Resolved, That Mr. Merchant, and those other republicans, who for preferring the path of duty and honor, to that of safety and profit, were during the late session of the council, made the objects of executive vengeance, have, by their devotion to principle, and by their fidelity to the republican party, richly merited the confidence, the respect, and the support of the people.
