My dear Sir,

Can you do any thing for John Duer He is ^in^ reality the most worthy man for the <illegible> but I am under the necessity of telling him in all frankness that I cannot assist him. I have refused to interfere for a particular friend and have been applied to by Hoffman &c &c Please to return me the letter at your leisure
