Albany
September 26th, 1828.
Sir-
As a committee of the republican convention recently assembled at Herkimer, we have the honour to announce to you, that you have been selected by that body as the candidate of the republican party at the approaching election, for the office of governor of this state.
This selection was made with the greatest unanimity by the convention, and with perfect confidence,-a confidence fully justified by your whole political life-that whatever might be your private inclinations in regard to the acceptance of this nomination, you would have no hesitation in sacrificing all personal considerations to the claims of the republican party upon your services, and the support of the great cause in which we are all engaged.
We are, with respect and esteem, your Obed’t serv’ts,
G. C. VERPLANCK,
WM. HOGAN,
A. C. FLAGG.
