Washgton

My dear Son

It has given me great pain to receive a letter from the President of the College informing me that he was instructed by the faculty to inform me [. . .] your conduct in not attending at the chapel in the morning was cause of dissatisfaction & that it would be necessary to encrease your exertions greatly to enable you to succeed with any thing like credit at the examination in July. I hope it can only be necessary to inform you of the circumstance to secure your prompt and indefatigable exertions.

In haste your father
