William Harris Crawford (1772-1834) was a Democratic-Republican politician who served in the U.S. Senate representing Georgia from 1807 to 1813, when he was then appointed as the U.S. Minister to France. When he returned to the U.S., Crawford served as the Secretary of War and later the Secretary of Treasury for Presidents Madison and Monroe. MVB was one of Crawford's major supporters in his 1824 run for President, but a stoke left Crawford in ill health and he lost and returned to Georgia, where he served as a circuit judge until his death.
