Thomas Jackson Oakley | The Papers of Martin Van Buren

Thomas Jackson Oakley (1783-1857) was a lawyer and politician from Poughkeepsie, NY. A Federalist, he was the surrogate of Dutchess County from 1810-11 and served as a representative for New York to the United States Congress from 1813-1815. He later was a member of the state assembly, NY attorney general, and chief justice of the NY Supreme Court.
