Thomas Addis Emmet (1764-1827) was born in Ireland and exiled to America, where he had a successful career as a New York lawyer. As Attorney General of New York from 1812 to 1813, he authorised MVB to bring a suit to investigate the Livingston and Van Rensselaer manor lands as part of the Livingston manor affair. Emmet carried on a private legal business until his death and served as co-counsel with MVB in the Harmen Visscher Hart cause in 1816.
