Stephen Van Rensselaer III

Stephen Van Rensselaer III (1764-1839) was a solider and politician from New York City. Van Rensselaer served in the militia before embarking on a political career in which he represented Albany in the New York State Assembly from 1789-90, 1808 to 1810, and finally in 1818, when he served alongside MVB. Van Rensselaer and MVB later served together at the New York State Constitutional Convention in 1821, and when Van Rensselaer served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives as a Adams Republican, he shared a boarding house with New York Senator MVB.
