Robert Troup (1757-1832) was a lawyer and judge from New York who was a close associate of Alexander Hamilton. He was the Judge of the federal court for the district of New York from 1796 to 1798, after which he carried on a private legal career until his death. In 1817 he dealt with the state Attorney General, MVB, regarding upcoming real estate suits and later voted for MVB in his successful campaign for the Governorship of New York in 1828.
