Jesse Hoyt (1792-1867) was a New York City lawyer and politician who was a close friend of MVB and his sons. He studied law in MVB's office alongside Benjamin Franklin Butler and later served a single term as a representative in the NY State Assembly in 1823 as a member of the Bucktails. A constant informer to MVB regarding New York City's political news, MVB appointed Hoyt to the Collectorship of the Port of New York, which he held from 1838 to 1841.
