Jacob Sutherland | The Papers of Martin Van Buren

Jacob Sutherland (1787-1845) was Smith Thompson’s nephew. He was appointed the U.S. district attorney for the Northern District of New York (1819). Sutherland later accepted an appointment as an associate justice on New York’s supreme court (1822-1835).
