Benjamin Knower (1775-1839) and was a hatter, republican politician, and banker in Albany, New York. Knower was NY's Secretary of the Treasury from 1821 to 1824 and was president of the Mechanics and Farmers' Bank of Albany. His connections with the Albany Regency and especially his son-in-law, William Learned Marcy, enhanced his buisness pursuits and he was a major investor in the Erie Canal's construction.
