S[amuel] L[ewis] S[outhard] to MVB, 16 January 1826
16. Jan'y. 1826.
Agreeably to the statement made in my letter to you of the 3d inst. an order was sent to Com. Chauncey directing him to enquire into the case of Augustus V.K. Hubbard; and he has informed me in reply, that upon examination, no person, by that name, has deserted from the Receiving Ship at New York between the 1st July, and 11th. December last. If you can furnish any additional particulars in the case, further enquiry shall be made.
I am, respectfully, &c.
